Research and Design Process

In my thesis I explored how Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT impact education, focusing on their benefits and ethical challenges. Many students use AI for research and ideation, but the lack of clear guidelines raises concerns about plagiarism and over-reliance. Through interviews and surveys, I found that students wanted AI tools that support learning without enabling academic dishonesty. Using Systematic Design Framework (SDF) and Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM), I developed a solution that balances AI assistance with integrity. The process involved iterative prototyping and user testing, refining the concept into a tool that guides students rather than replaces their work.

Prototype

The Study Assistant is an AI-powered tool designed to help students research and brainstorm without generating full academic texts. It features two main modes:

  1. Research Mode – Provides structured sources and summaries to support learning.

  2. Brainstorming Mode – Suggests topics and outlines without producing ready-made essays.

A built-in warning system detects misuse, guiding students toward ethical AI use. Designed to align with academic standards, Study Assistant ensures AI enhances learning without compromising integrity.
